1. Development perspective

– Develop science and technology in line with the orientation of the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Ministry of Science and Technology.

2. Target

Contributing to the implementation of Resolution No. 20-NQ/TW on the development of science and technology to promote industrialization and modernization in the context of the socialist-oriented market economy and international integration of the 6th plenum of the Party Central Committee, term XI and Decision No. 418/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister approving the Strategy for Science and Technology Development for the 2011-2020 period.

Ensuring the maintenance of a world-class, dynamic and responsive research platform.

Strengthening scientific research capacity to reach international level in the key fields of science, technology and economy, contributing to affirming the position and academic performance of the VNUK Institute of Research and Executive Education.

Strengthening scientific research activities and academic exchanges within the university lecturers and with other institutions. Improving the quantity and quality of scientific research projects conducted by VNUK at the provincial, ministerial and national levels. Increasing the number of articles by the VNUK lecturers in prestigious domestic and foreign journals.

Developing cooperation in science and technology activities with many training, research institutions and enterprises at home and abroad. Executing research cooperation projects with domestic and foreign universities; coordinating and implementing research projects associated with socio-economic development of the provinces in the Central and Highland areas and in the whole country. Strengthening the organization and coordination of national and international scientific conferences and seminars.

Promoting start-up activities and technology exchange. Strengthening experimental production, technology exchange, application of technical advances to production and implementation of science and technology contracts, associating scientific research with practical application.

Developing scientific research activities among students, increasing human resources’ capability to put scientific, technical and technological knowledge into practice at domestic and foreign workplaces.

3. Solution

Organizing the implementation of scientific and technological activities, promulgating and supplementing regulations on scientific research as well as policies to support and reward scientific projects right after its establishments, following the existing regulations of the University of Danang and VNUK. This is a long-term mission associated with the development of VNUK. In addition, VNUK also promulgates regulations and policies to support startups and technology exchange, connecting businesses to execute the research projects.

a) Group of solutions to strengthen and promote internal strength (in VNUK and in the University of Danang):

– Taking advantage of a member educational institution in the regional university model, using and sharing its resources and strengths, as well as supporting each other, especially in scientific and technological activities. among member universities under the University of Danang.

– Enhancing the quality of the research team through improving the professional qualifications and degrees of the lecturers, coordinating with other member universities under the University of Danang to carry out scientific research projects, technology transfer. Regularly organizing and attending national and international scientific conferences and seminars.

– Building and forming more TRT research and teaching groups, specifically: bioinformatics research group; research group on natural compounds; high-tech agricultural research group; research group in the field of nanomaterials; research group in the field of artificial intelligence; research group in the fields of Internet of Things and Data Science. Teaching and research groups will be the core team in scientific research, technology transfer and postgraduate training activities.

– Facilitating staff and lecturers to participate in science and technology activities, providing them incentives to join in domestic and foreign scientific conferences and seminars such as expenses for traveling, attending and publishing scientific articles.

– Encouraging young lecturers to do scientific research, report and present research results at the Faculty and VNUK; commending and recognizing typical individuals in scientific and technological activities.

– Having policies to encourage and support staff, lecturers and research groups to implement research projects and participate in bidding for ministerial-level science and technology projects or higher. Providing monetary support and rewards for training staff with international articles.

– Supporting lecturers and research groups in technology transfer, application of research results in production: partial support or funding for implementation, contract signing support with enterprises undertaking research projects or improving production lines.

– Increasing funding and investment for scientific and technological activities: investing in new equipment for laboratories, having a master plan step by step to build laboratories for research; coordinating to take advantage of research facilities of member institutions under the University of Danang.

– Enhancing students’ scientific research activities, establishing more SRT Study and Research groups of students. These SRT groups will be the core teams to promote students’ spirit of learning and participation in scientific research, contributing to improving the training quality of the school. Developing policies to facilitate students in starting a business with manufactured technology products.

b) Group of solutions to strengthen and develop external connection:

– Building and promoting cooperation in research with other universities, research Institutes, high-tech parks and international businesses, especially the most prestigious partners from the UK. Developing and maintaining cooperative relationships with domestic partners.

– Strengthening direct connection with the departments, boards, authority and localities in the country, firstly in the Central and Central Highlands region in order to search and increase the number of science and technology topics at all levels conducted by VNUK staff preside over implementation so that science and technology activities at VNUK can contribute to the socio-economic development of the localities, thereby affirming the role and position of VNUK.

– Developing policies to invite businesses, agencies, management units, technology incubators, hi-tech parks, etc. to directly participate or support projects in research and manufacturing of technical and technological products, creating favorable conditions for technology transfer, and putting complete research results into practical application.

– Strengthening and developing international cooperation relationships in training and research through a team of lecturers who have been trained abroad; promoting the exchange of lecturers, experts and students. Developing policíe to invite scientists and experts from foreign countries (especially those of Vietnamese origin) to participate in training and research at VNUK. Actively coordinating with foreign universities to organize seminars, thematic reports, national and international scientific conferences.

– Seeking and taking advantage of the aid and funding of international organizations, and international partners in terms of human resources, professional experience and facilities for the implementation of scientific and technological projects, research topics, and manufacturing products.

– Conducting regular evaluation of scientific research performance according to the UK Research Excellence Framework (REF) model. Details of the excellent competency assessment framework are shown in Appendix 8 attached to the Scheme.

4. Focus areas of research:

Research fields at VNUK are selected based on those that Vietnam has no tradition, has high application demand and has advantages in resources. Areas of focus include:
